Twin Work & Volunteer Abroad aims to promote sustainable behaviours both in the UK office and through our participants in overseas placements.
Environmental Policy:
- Through partnership with Climate Care, Twin encourages participates to off-set their carbon emissions through contributions to www.climatecare.org These contributions contribute to long term sustainable projects in Renewable Energy, energy Efficiency and Forest Restoration.
- Twin provides a range of environmental projects which actively work towards long-term conservation of flora and fauna, while broadening understanding and nature conservation on a global scale.
- Twin encourages in-country partners to work towards sustainable behaviours, and to promote environmentally sensitive behaviour with all participants.
- Twin aims to maximise the use of web-based promotions and minimise the use of paper-based promotions.
Economic Policy:
- Through partnering with local NGO’s, agencies and government ministries, Twin aims to ensure that:
- Local business are used for all supply, including transport, food, accommodation, materials etc,
- Local employment opportunities are created.
- Approximately 70% of the participant contribution goes to the destination country to support local business and conservation efforts.
Social Policy:
- Twin aims to support projects that both directly and indirectly support both the environment and the community.
- Providing paid and un-paid placements in various countries to develop and promote cross cultural understanding and empathy.
- Ensuring that participants receive an in-country induction allowing them to understand local cultures, traditions and sensitivities
- In-country project co-ordinators promote opportunities for participants to interact with local communities at grass roots level to enable participants to have a better understanding of local lifestyles away from the well-trodden tourist circuits.
