The teachers and children in Thai schools always appreciate help with English teaching and other subjects and are very supportive of international volunteers. Traditional Thai teachers love sharing their knowledge of their customs and culture so you will become as integrated as possible within the school. |

You will be teaching in a school located in Kuraburi, Phang Nga province, 2.5 hours from Thailand's premiere tourist destination, Phuket. Despite its proximity to Phuket, Kuraburi is off the tourist path, giving you unique insight into the Thai way of life. Kuraburi is a small town surrounded by lush mountainous jungle, boasting several idyllic waterfalls, ideal for swimming. Stretches of deserted beach are a mere 20 minutes drive from where you will be staying. A perfect location to see a stunning Andaman sunset.

You'll be met at Phuket International Airport and taken to our office in Kuraburi to meet staff and volunteers. A member of staff will take you through an introduction workshop explaining everything you will need to know during your time with us. All your questions will be answered and you'll be made to feel like a member of the team. You'll be given an introduction to teaching and shown the selection of resources that are available for you to use to assist you in the classroom. We understand it is a lot to take in when you first arrive, so don't expect to remember everything! We'll also go through the main cultural dos and don'ts, so that you don't unintentionally offend anyone during your time in Thailand (simple things like taking your shoes off when entering a home).
After your induction day, the second day will be spent at the school where you will meet the Thai English teachers and observe their classes before you actually teach a class. You'll assist the teacher with the pupils' conversation and pronunciation skills, as many of the pupils have not had the opportunity to speak with a native English speaker. Your presence in the classroom will assist the teachers and pupils' improve their confidence to interact with Westerners, as many are too shy to speak English when they meet a visitor.
If you have little or no teaching experience, there is still a vital role for you to play supporting the teachers and other volunteers, working with smaller groups in or out of class, or offering individual assistance to children. This is a project where independence, energy and initiative are very important – you may have to plan and teach classes without close supervision from the teachers, although they are on hand to help you whenever you need support.
Expect to work approximately 3 – 4 hours per day during the school day. There are also opportunities for you get involved with after school clubs or associations. If you have any knowledge or experience of other subjects or activities, whether creative or academic, you will have the chance to involve the children in these areas. The majority of the teachers at the school speak basic English so you can also help them to improve their skills.
