Volunteer in Ghana Construction Projects Ghana

Volunteer Ghana
Help with much needed building work for Ghana's growing education system

Ghana has the well-deserved reputation of being one of the friendliest countries on the planet. Steeped in history, culturally diverse, stunning coastlines, savannah and rainforest make Ghana a fascinating place to visit. We are currently expanding all operations in Ghana due to the success of the programme so far.

Construction Projects Ghana is a programme that our partners in Ghana have asked us to set up to help with the ongoing building and renovation projects that are a continuous part of the development programme in the Keea region. There are normally several projects on the go at once ranging from building brand new learning centres from scratch to helping update existing sites, things like running in power supplies (both solar and electric) and general renovation work are all possible. If you are a fully qualified brick layer or plumber, or just want to lend a hand and don’t mind getting your hands dirty then this worthwhile project is for you. We are also interested in hearing from architects, civil engineers etc as there are also project management opportunities for those who can spare the time. Ex armed forces also seem to do well on these programmes and we can cater for groups or individuals. Please call for details.

Project Life

The day starts early with breakfast in the guesthouse, then off to work at your project. They tend to start early so as to make the most of the cooler times of the day and then in the hotter afternoons the time is used to plan for the next day and logistics resupply etc. Depending on your experience, needs and background, you will be allocated to a project that suits both yourself and our partner in Ghana. Each volunteer has the opportunity to talk to Aubrey, the Project Coordinator before they start their placement. He will ensure that you have a clear understanding of the projects needs and that you are fully prepared for your programme and life in Ghana.

The working week is from Monday to Friday, and you are welcome to explore the surrounding area on weekends, or just relax with your new friends.

Esther Ghanney is the volunteer coordinator in Ghana, her enthusiasm for life is infectious and she will ensure that your days are full and rewarding.

Born in the Keea region, she knows everybody in the community and ensures that you know your way around and that you are made to feel welcome in your new home away from home.

Accommodation and Food

All volunteers will stay in accommodation close to the building project. It is basic but clean and will have electricity and running water, though power cuts are normal. Most volunteer accommodation has a lady who will clean and prepare the meals and generally be there for help and to give advice. The meals are a mixture of Ghanaian and western cuisine and vegetarians can be catered for.
