Internship in Ghana
Gain practical skills whilst working in a professional environment
Ghana is tucked between Togo and the Ivory Coast and home to tropical rainforests and waterfalls, medieval Portuguese castles and traditional festivals are celebrated all year round.

It is situated on the west coast of Africa, along the Gulf of Guinea, and is bordered by Ivory Coast, Togo and Burkina Faso. Ghana has something for everyone and offers both modern and traditional life. Its wide valleys, low-lying coastal plains and thick rainforests resound with the beat of traditional rituals, whilst its cities glow and vibrate with the hustle and bustle of the modern world.

Our internship programme allows participants to share the experience and knowledge gained at University and gain practical skills whilst working in a professional environment.

We are able to match your specific vocational requirements, qualifications and skills, whether related to economic, socio-cultural, educational, scientific or administrative areas as we locate Ghanaian organisations who are able to offer vocational experience in companies matching your future career objectives.

Duration

The internship programme is for a period from 6 weeks to 12 months, areas include: Education (Teach abroad), Health (Trained doctors and nurses), finance and banking, media, journalism, computing, wildlife, environment and much more. We are able to source specific placements across most sectors on request.

Application

Internship Ghana is open to participants all year round. All applications should be sent to us at least 6 weeks before the arrival of participants. The application should include the following: 2 CV’s, 2 reference letters, 4 passport photos, and photocopy of certificates.

Location

Formerly a British colony called the Gold Coast, it was the first country of black Africa to attain independence, in 1957. It is politically stable and well administered by regional standards with an active free press. Though rich in resources, Ghana's population of 21.4 million is among the poorest in the world. Ghanaians rely heavily on international financial and technical assistance.

The capital of Accra has busy markets and spicy local stews to sample, but once you leave here you discover the treasures that Ghana can offer. For eco-tourists the Agumatsa wildlife sanctuary provides the Wli waterfalls and the evening flight of the large colony of resident fruit bats. The Mole national park is the largest in Ghana and has herds of buck, elephants and monkeys. Akatekyi crocodile pond, Boabeng-Fiema monkey sanctuary and Weichau hippo sanctuary are also worth a look. The Volta, an immense lake created by two dams, offers game fishing such as barracuda and tuna, and hotels can arranges boats and equipment.

Project Life

The programme begins with a six-day arrival orientation that includes airport pickup, accommodation and food on the first day of arrival. The six-day orientation will be given in Accra and the participant’s host region (1 day). During the orientation, the participant is introduced to aspects of the programme such as Ghanaian culture including language lessons, host family issues, safety, cross culture and workplace, immigration and visa issues, health, money, transportation and food matters.

A city tour of Accra and a tour of the participant’s host organisation is provided. Participants are given the opportunity to cook a local dish during the orientation period. Upon completion of the orientation programme, the participant is transferred to her/his work place.

Accommodation & Food

Accommodation arrangements for the participants to live in approved "home-stays" with local families. Host family accommodation is included in the programme and includes 2 meals on weekdays and 3 meals on weekends. The accommodation has basic furnishings. In some instances there may be no running water or electricity. The participant provides (pays) for his or her drinking water (bottled mineral water or treated water). However, in host families, the participant is assisted in treating drinking water to reduce cost.
