Africa is an amazing continent, overflowing with beautiful scenery and unique things to do. If you’re interested in wildlife, Africa is home to a number of famous national parks, and going on a safari promises the chance to see animals found nowhere else in the world. You can also find incredible natural landmarks there; if you venture to the top of Table Mountain in South Africa, you’ll be rewarded with a breath-taking view over Cape Town. Key destinations for those volunteering for our projects include Port Elizabeth, which forms part of the Garden Route, (the stunning stretch of South Africa’s south-eastern coast), and Jeffreys Bay, a surfer’s mecca.
Through Work & Volunteer’s volunteering opportunities, you’ll not only get to experience the wonders of Africa, but also have the chance to make a difference to the lives of people and animals in some of the poorest countries in the world; a great way to make the most of your time if you’re taking a gap year.
Over 25 million people in Africa are HIV-positive, and our volunteering programmes allow you to support an awareness project or work with children who have lost parents to the disease. There is also an opportunity to support education in Africa; a huge proportion of the population is illiterate, and teaching children there will provide you with great teaching experience, as well as make a difference to these children’s lives. For those more interested in conservation volunteering, Africa’s huge variety of wildlife means you are able to really get involved with the protection of animals; you could even spend some time living with lions!
