WAVA's Visual Media Policy

WAVA uses photographs and videoclips to illustrate its programmes and activities. These materials are stored in digital format on WAVA’s Flickr site www.flickr.com/seemoredomore. Occasionally we select one or two photos for use in print communications. On our website, www.workandvolunteer.com, we publish embedded photostreams and videoclips from the WAVA Flickr collection, and locally hosted photographs.

We only use photos and videos taken by:

1. WAVA staff and scouts
2. WAVA participants
3. WAVA partners

Concerning the ownership and intellectual property of these materials, we operate a simple rule. Materials in class (1) operate under a Creative Commons licence (www.creativecommons.org) of non-commercial, non-derivative attribution, and materials under classes (2) and (3) operate under full copyright. The principle behind this is as follows: materials owned by WAVA can be freely shared and used by others without modification, and not for commercial purposes. Materials not owned by WAVA, but which have been entrusted to WAVA, cannot be shared, distributed, sold, modified or used without the express permission of their owners. WAVA is the custodian of these materials and is not authorised to determine the nature of their use beyond WAVA.

If a third party wishes to use materials in class (1) outside the terms of the Creative Commons licence, they must contact WAVA. If they want to use materials in classes (2) or (3) for any purpose, they must also contact WAVA, who will put them in direct contact with the owners.
