Booking Procedure

Okay deep breath, you’ve browsed the WAVA website and found a programme that you like, now what do you do next?

Here is a rough breakdown of the steps that a typical WAVA participant takes from the moment they find a programme to the moment they depart...

Volunteering Projects

  • 1

"I really like the sound of this programme, I’m ready to apply right away"

Simply click this button Book Now and fill in the Application Form. FYI, our application process is not hard, all that it requires is that you give some thought as to why you want to become a volunteer and what you can offer the project.

  • 2

Wait to be contacted by a Travel Advisor – they will email you in a day or two to arrange a suitable time to call you to discuss your chosen programme. We basically just need a few moments to clarify details of your chosen programme, find out a bit more about you; why you want to volunteer and whether the programme will suit all your needs.

  • 3

Pay a deposit to secure your placement.

  • 4

We send you a Pre-departure Pack, which includes specific programme guidelines to help you prepare for your travels.

  • 5

Forward us your supporting documents - CV, motivational letter and 2 casual photos. (Yes, all that boring stuff and yes, by e-mail. Let’s avoid wasting paper by printing).

  • 6

Now’s the time to book your flights, insurance, visas and… inoculations. (Ouch!). Don’t forget to forward us all your travel details (insurance and flights).

  • 7

Pay the final amount - the projects we work with around the world set their own prices, based on their needs to run their organization and take care of you.

  • 8

We send you a Final-departure Document – this lists who you will be working with at your project and all the phone numbers you will need in case of any emergencies.

  • 9
    Step 9

Once a month (always on a Thursday) we organise a special 'Pre-departure Briefing (PDB)' evening, where we invite all our booked participants along to meet the WAVA team.

Come along and listen to fascinating talks by past WAVA volunteers and have the chance to meet up with a new batch of volunteers ready to depart.

  • 10

    Pack your bags and fly.

See more. Do more. Work, learn, teach, dance, laugh, cry, eat, play, jump, build, swim and have fun!

    Step 10
  • 11

Come back and share all your thoughts, photos and videos with WAVA!

Work Programmes / Internships

  • The steps you need to take before you can do a work programme / internship programme is slightly different from the volunteering programmes procedures (above)- namely, after Step 2 (before you pay your deposit) your Travel Advisor will send you a more detailed Application Form where you will need to forward us your supporting documents - CV, motivational letter and 2 casual photos. We will then be able to review your documents and ascertain whether or not you can be accepted on to the programme. Once you’ve been approved you can then pay your deposit and we send you a Pre-departure Pack (as in Step 4 above).
  • You then ignore Step 5 above (as we have already received your supporting documents). But now we need a little extra time to find you either a host family to live with or a work placement offer. This may take some time depending on what you’re looking for, but we always aim to find a good match for you at the first attempt.
  • Steps 6 – 11 are the same as above, although regrettably we do not invite Work/Internship participants to our Pre-departure Briefing (PDB). But don’t worry, you can pop down and visit us whenever you want.

Note: Once your placement has been confirmed you will be able to contact your hotel or host family directly and discuss any arrangements.
